About WIDES

Professor Pablo Dighiero, MD, PhD, is a French ophthalmologist internationally recognized for his expertise in cornea, ocular surface disease, refractive surgery, and dry eye.

Founder and Chairman of the World Interventional & Dry Eye Society (WIDES) and of the Association of Dry Eye Centers (ACOS), he leads the Dry Eye Institute of Barbizon, where his clinical and scientific work is devoted to the most advanced forms of ocular surface and dry eye care.

His academic path was shaped by an eminent Parisian background at Hotel-Dieu Hospital, where he completed his fellowship in cornea, ocular surface, anterior segment, and refractive surgery, and later served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Cornea and Refractive Surgery. He subsequently became Professor of Ophthalmology at Poitiers University, building a career at the intersection of academic excellence, surgical refinement, and clinical innovation.

Over the years, Professor Dighiero has developed a distinctive vision of dry eye management, grounded in pathophysiology, precision diagnostics, and therapeutic synergy. His work has contributed to the modern understanding of meibomian gland dysfunction, meibography, epithelial OCT, IPL-based strategies, and multimodal non-pharmacological treatment protocols, including the development of the eTAO method for the standardized evaluation and follow-up of dry eye disease.

Through WIDES, he promotes a new international standard of care in Interventional Dry Eye, combining scientific rigor, technological innovation, and highly personalized treatment strategies. His ambition is to offer ophthalmologists, as well as patients from across Europe and beyond, access to a more advanced, structured, and sophisticated approach to dry eye disease and ocular surface restoration.
